On August 13th, 30 students from Singapore University of Science and Design arrived at Shenzhen Bao'an Airport and launched the third summer exchange project on "New Energy and Its Applications: From Conversion to Storage".
Ice breaking ceremony&school visit
On the morning of August 14th, the welcome ceremony was held at the Innovation Workshop of the School of New Materials and Energy. Teacher Wei Lek, our school's teachers An Hongyu, Hu Yunfei, Zhang Guangye, and You Peng attended. Teacher Zhang Guangye introduced the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen University of Technology, and the School of New Materials and New Energy to students in Singapore, and used the game "Draw and Guess" as the beginning of the ice breaking ceremony, allowing students from China and Singapore to quickly get together.
Lake View Canteen
After the ice breaking ceremony, SUTD students and SZTU students quickly became friends, and then SZTU students led everyone to the Lakeview Cafeteria.
Campus visit
Under the organization and leadership of three teachers, SUTD students took the New Materials College Building as the starting point for their visit, visiting places such as the library, the Urban Transportation and Logistics College, the administrative building sand table, the sports hall, and the outdoor sports field of the North District dormitory. "Their sports facilities are all free!" sighed a Singaporean classmate. The students also visited the racing studio of Shenzhen University of Technology. Upon learning that all the racing cars here are designed and manufactured by students, and that each car costs 50-600000 yuan, Singaporean students expressed admiration and were shocked by the school's support for student interests.
course arrangement
On the the fourth day of the summer camp, we came to the lecture link. Teacher Zhang Guangye has changed his previous style and brought a full English class with the theme of "clean energy and solar cells".
01. Clean energy and solar cells
Teacher Zhang Guangye explained the knowledge in the field of new energy from several aspects, including thin-film photovoltaic applications, carbon neutrality applications, photovoltaic costs, and industrialization of perovskites. The students from New Science and Technology University listened attentively and took careful notes.
02. Solar photovoltaic technology and silicon solar modules
03. Crystal Silicon Solar Cell Laboratory
Solar powered boat production
As a traditional summer camp project, solar powered boats are used to make the finale. Combining the experience of fellow students from Shenzhen University of Technology in Singapore, the materials prepared this time are more diverse, not only powered by solar panels, but also by two dry batteries. Even on cloudy days, the competition can proceed smoothly.
Design a small boat
Some students in Singapore specialize in engineering and are particularly skilled in shipbuilding. After receiving the materials, without too much hesitation, I started making my own small boat. Some students are good at design, some are good at welding, and some are good at mechanical manufacturing. We worked together to complete the production of solar powered boats.
Racing competition
At 2 pm, all the students and teachers came to the edge of Runyuan Lake to prepare for the competition. This racing competition is an upgraded version of the racing competition held by students from Shenzhen University of Technology in Singapore. The venue has transformed from a small fountain pool to the Runyuan Lake of NUST.
Luck is a part of strength. The competition environment is complex, and the small boats completed in the morning are slightly rudimentary. Due to the influence of outdoor strong winds and fountain stakes in the lake, some boats cannot return in the middle of the lake, while others start first but get stuck on the fountain stakes.
After two rounds of competition, the first and second place were ultimately decided, and then the Best Design Award was determined through voting.
Enterprise visits
In addition to offering a variety of courses, the students also visited well-known companies in Shenzhen for on-site research.
BYD
"Creating the future with technology, helping to cool the earth with action, and developing clean energy are the correct choices to achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature," BYD Manager Yang introduced to us. BYD is committed to new energy vehicles, and students came to BYD to test drive their new energy vehicles and visit their solar photovoltaic manufacturing, which left a deep impression.
At the same time, students learned that BYD has a wide range of industrial coverage, including cloud tracks, semiconductors, batteries, screen glass, and even switched to making masks when needed by the country.
Jiejia Weichuang
In the afternoon, the students visited the famous photovoltaic company Jiejiawei Innovation Energy Co., Ltd.
The students were divided into groups A and B, and Jiejia Weichuang thoughtfully prepared English explanations for them. The students put on protective clothing and, led by the company's employees, visited the workshop of Jiejia Weichuang.
Jiejia Weichuang also held a symposium for students. During the symposium, engineer Homer, with years of industry experience and research and development experience, explained the latest knowledge in the industry from industry trends to company products in a simple and easy to understand manner. At the same time, there is also a question time, where students can express all their doubts. Engineers and managers also answer each question one by one, and welcome students from Singapore to work at Jiejia Weichuang.
Camp closing ceremony
Award Ceremony
On the afternoon of August 18th, Teacher An Hongyu, Teacher Zhang Guangye, Teacher You Peng, Teacher Hu Yunfei, Teacher Wang Qiuxia, and Teacher Wei Lek presented awards to the winning group in the racing competition.
Camp closing ceremony
The brief summer camp quickly ended, and after the award ceremony, it was the closing ceremony. Five teachers from our school will take turns issuing commemorative certificates to the students of New Science and Technology University, and Wei Lek will issue certificates to 11 students from our school. Although the summer camp only lasted for eight days, the students from China and Singapore have become good friends. They have all taken photos with their friends and said they must see each other again in the future!
During this exchange visit, Singaporean students visited the unique scenic spot of Huaqiangbei, known as China Electronics First Street, in Shenzhen. They also visited Dongmen Old Street, Lianhua Mountain, and other places to experience Shenzhen's cultural and cultural heritage.
The students of New University of Science and Technology have deeply experienced the humanistic culture of Shenzhen and marveled at its richness and diversity. The students from New University of Science and Technology expressed their gratitude to Shenzhen University of Science and Technology for their rich experiences in the past eight days and their warm hospitality!!
