Chen Zhenyuan , Distinguished Professor

 

Profile:
Chen Zhenyuan is a Distinguished Professor. He received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Hong Kong in 1995 and was a lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Department of Manufacturing Engineering at VTC Hong Kong Institute of Technology from 1995 to 2004. He then joined the information technology industry as an IT manager and consultant for various organizations. In 2007, he joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and worked in the Partner Laboratory of the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-Precision Machining Technology, where his research interests include advanced manufacturing technology, micro- and nano-machining technology and equipment, materials science, precision optical design, optical field imaging and bionic vision, computer simulation and image processing algorithms. From 2013 to 2018, he was the laboratory's project manager. He joined Marvel Digital Limited in 2019 as director and technical director, responsible for R&D topics such as 3D video capture, naked eye 3D display technology and application solutions, 2D and 3D image processing technology, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) algorithms and programming for image processing. He has been in charge of and participated as Principal Researcher in a number of R&D projects with cumulative research funding of over HK$20 million. He has published more than ten papers in international and domestic academic journals and has been granted a number of invention patents. As the first inventor, he received a special award and a gold medal at the 44th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland (2016) for his "compound eye for novel high-definition stereoscopic imaging". He received the Special Award and Gold Medal at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland (2018) for his advanced naked eye display technology. He currently focuses on automatic 2D to 3D video conversion, FPGA programming, high-precision naked eye multi-dot display algorithms, and precision lamination technology.
