Yang Fan, doctor in engineering, deputy director of Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Marine Energy and Environmental Safety, deputy director of Center for Frontier Science and Engineering Applications of Surface and Interfacial, Shenzhen Technology University, assistant professor of Shenzhen Technology University, Shenzhen foreign high-ranking peacock plan talent, Shenzhen Nansha County navigation talent. Yang Fan graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2006 with a B.Eng. degree, from the University of Alberta (fourth in Canada) in 2009 with an M.Eng. degree, and from the University of Alberta in 2015 with a doctorate degree under the guidance of Professor Xu Zhenghe, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, with a specialization in materials chemistry. From August 2007 to June 2009, Yang Fan worked at Syncrude R&D Center, the second largest oil sands energy company in Canada, as a researcher and conducted master's level research. His research focused on the response mechanism of solid particle wettability changes in crude oil extraction and its impact on the stability of emulsions in the crude oil industry. From March 2010 to August 2015, he worked at Canmet ENERGY as a researcher and conducted his doctoral research on stabilizing and demulsifying mechanisms of oil-water emulsions under the influence of different oil components using liquid thin film technology. From January 2016 to November 2017, Yang Fan founded his own technology company (www.leenkwink.ca) in Calgary, Canada. The company provides new liquid crystal thin film optical valves for the Canadian market and develops a series of nano-silver molecular sieve composite products for applications. Leenk & Wink Inc. was featured in Venture Canada in 2017 as an emerging technology company in Alberta.
Yang Fan has a deep understanding of chemical materials synthesis and related interfacial phenomena, with many years of experience in materials chemistry research. His main experiences include: emulsifying and demulsifying oil-water systems, researching materials surface modification techniques, synthesizing and applying nanosilver composites, new functional nanoparticles, etc. He has participated in several NSERC grants with significant results and has extensive training and experience in top international R&D research centers. He has been recognized by ExxonMobil, Shell, Suncor and Syncrude Energy for his research on oil-water emulsion stabilization mechanisms in the petroleum industry.
His current research interests include designing and preparing new anode materials for lithium-ion batteries, developing magnetic interface agents, and developing super-sparse coatings. He won the first prize in the "Environmental Protection and New Materials" group and the third prize in the finals of the 2019 Guangdong University Achievement Transformation Competition for his leading development of "Highly wear-resistant superhydrophobic coating composite technology". He also won the second prize in the "new materials" group in Pingshan District and the third prize in the finals of the 2020 Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
